About Classwork, Homework, and Extra Credit Assignments
- Classwork assignments are given during the school day. Your child then has the benefit of practicing a newly learned skill and seeking the assistance of a teacher, if necessary. If classwork assignments are not completed at school, it is the responsibility of each student to make sure these assignments are completed at home.
- Homework assignments are given out at the end of the day, Monday through Thursday. The purpose of these assignments is to practice skills students have already mastered. The Math and Language Drops in the Bucket pages should take your child less than 30 minutes to complete--some students complete them in less than 15 minutes.
- Extra Credit assignments are not given. I do not believe they are necessary as I do provide your child with the opportunity to complete late assignments and will grade them for full credit if they are turned in the day after the assignment was due.
- Missing assignments are accepted for grading within a week of the original due date. As stated above, if turned in the next day, the assignment will be graded for full credit. Later assignments will receive partial credit. Students who are absent are responsible for completing everything that was assigned during the absence. Students are allowed the same number of days to make up work as they were absent. If a student misses one day, then the make-up assignments are expected the day after s/he returns to school.
- A daily assignment log (also called an agenda) will be provided to all students. Students are to write assignments in their agendas as the assignments are given; assignments are also recorded on the board. Please check your child's agenda daily to find information about daily assignments. Agendas will be checked for completion (having all assignments recorded) at the end of each day during the first quarter. A sticker or rubber stamp will be given to those who have correctly and neatly recorded all assignments.
